Beginning in 1974, the newly relaunched Dukes of Dixieland took up residence at Dukes’ Place, a jazz club used as their own home base as well as featuring national acts. It was located on the top floor of the historic Monteleone Hotel in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
This one-hour television broadcast was part of a series produced by Dukes manager John Shoup and New Orleans public television channel WYES. Although sometimes incorrectly dated as from 1993, it was actually filmed a decade earlier and was broadcast in 1984 (the club only existed until 1986). The band is Byrd’s trio with brother Joe on bass and drummer Chuck Redd.
