Jazztime/Jazzline Records Listing

December 17, 2000 By Michael Fitzgerald

compiled by Michael Fitzgerald
August 17, 1999-December 17, 2000

This is not a catalog. This is a discographical tool for researchers. I have no idea how to obtain these records.

The first three issues of Fred Norsworthy’s Jazztime label (based in Malton, Ontario, Canada) were announced in the September 28, 1961 issue of Down Beat (p. 34). At some later point the name was changed to Jazzline.

This output (including unissued material) has appeared under many different names and titles on Polydor, Fontana, Onyx, Muse, and Black Lion Lps, also on Trio, Black Lion (BL) and Prestige CDs. The Black Lion CDs are the most complete, with alternative takes, etc.

Muse issued the Jazztime albums on Lp. 001=MR 5053 (Kenny Dorham: Ease It); 002=MR 5066 (Walter Bishop, Jr.: Speak Low); 003=MR 5014 (Grant Green: Green Blues).

Black Lion issued the Jazztime albums on Lp and CD. 001=60119 (Kenny Dorham: West 42nd Street); 002=60109 (Walter Bishop, Jr.: Milestones); 003= 60129 (Grant Green: Reaching Out)

Polydor issued two Jazzline albums on Lp. 33-02=423224 (Duke Pearson: Hush!); 33-04=583723 (Duke Pearson: Angel Eyes)

Fontana issued one Jazzline album on Lp. 33-03=883290 (Freddie Hubbard: Groovy!)

Onyx issued one Jazzline album on Lp. 33-01=206 (Tommy Flanagan: Trio And Sextet)

Xanadu issued one Jazzline album on CD. 33-01=5011 (Tommy Flanagan: Trio And Sextet)

Black Lion issued the Jazzline albums on Lp and CD. 33-01=60146 (Kenny Dorham: Osmosis); 33-02=60134 (Donald Byrd & Johnny Coles: Groovin’ For Nat); 33-03=60122 (Freddie Hubbard: Minor Mishap); 33-04=60149 (Duke Pearson: Bag’s Groove)

Prestige issued one Jazzline album on Lp. 33-04=7729 (Duke Pearson: Dedication)

Fantasy/OJC issued one Jazzline album on CD. 33-04=1939 (Duke Pearson: Dedication)

Perhaps less confusing is the fact that there have been other labels named Jazzline and Jazztime or Jazz Time.
