Built 1940; opened 1941, but non-military events began only in 1948 with the creation of the D.C. Armory Board. Seating capacity 10,000. The armory was used by package tours such as Jazz at the Philharmonic (1950-56) and Jazz for Moderns (1957) and for some events of the D.C. International Jazz Festival in 1962.
