I grew up in Chapel Oaks (adjacent to Cedar heights), and often explored the woods near Dyke’s. Many people that I know spoke fondly of it. I lived close enough to Dyke’s to hear an occasional automobile accident involving a patron who had too good of a time there. I also witnessed, from my back window, the fire that destroyed Dyke’s. That was 1959, and I was 10 years old; too young to enjoy what Dyke’s had to offer. I can’t exactly pinpoint the date, but can narrow it down to Oct 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, or 8 during the 1959 World Series. LA Dodgers vs Chicago White Sox. LA won 4 games to 2.
Jim Dykes was my grandfather. If anyone can provide any information about the stockade I would love to hear about it! Or him!!!
Thanks
