601 Pennsylvania Ave., SE
Formerly 601 Club, which featured country and western music. Owned by Henry Yaffe (1966-1970); Larry Quillian (1970-), Alvin Ross (-2014), Mary Quillian (). Manager Mark Steele (2014-) reintroduced live jazz.
The upstairs room was created for Roberta Flack, who had been successfully performing at Mr. Henry's Georgetown. She opened there on December 18, 1967 and performed there frequently. The club was closed in 1971 and reopened in spring 1972, presenting jazz as well as other musical styles. The name varied, and it was sometimes listed as Mr. Henry’s at Capitol Hill. [Clarification needed regarding upstairs and downstairs rooms at the same location.]
