Was the first Miss Black DC Pageant held in Northwest Gardens?
Yes indeed! On June 20, 1969 at Northwest Gardens, the honor went to Connie L. Brown, 19, a graduate of Eastern High School and a clerical assistant at the Library of Congress. Alas, Connie did not go on to win the Miss Black America competition, but the following year (1970), Miss Black America was Stephanie Clark of DC!
