Attended Howard University in late 1940s. Following service in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1957, he joined the Howard Theater house band, succeeding Rick Henderson as its musical director in 1964.
Saxophonist and flutist. Born 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri; died 2013.
Wess was raised in Oklahoma, beginning to play alto saxophone at age 10. His family moved to Washington in 1935. His father was principal of a school and his mother was a music teacher.

Son of Billy Taylor, Sr., the Duke Ellington bassist.
Pianist. Donald Tecumseh Carson born December 4, 1929 in Washington, D.C.; died February 13, 2000 in Cedar Park, Texas.
In 1949 was a member of a David Jackson quintet that also included Benny Golson and Eddie Jones. Played intermission piano at the Showboat Lounge in 1957 and again in 1961.
