Alto saxophonist, arranger, and educator. Richard Andrew Henderson born April 25, 1928 in Washington, D.C.; died May 21, 2004 in Washington, D.C.
Henderson attended Armstrong High School and was graduated in 1946. After serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he joined the Duke Ellington band in 1953. Henderson led the house band at Howard Theater from 1956 to 1964. In the late 1970s he taught at the University of Maryland.
