Vienna, VA
Grounds (100 acres) donated by Catherine Filene Shouse in 1968. Opened July 1, 1971. Jazz booked by Grassella Oliphant (1971). In 1986, promoter Ron Delsener was hired as consultant.
Filene Center capacity: 3500 under the roof, plus 3000 more on adjoining grounds. This hall was destroyed by fire on April 4, 1982. For the summer 1982 and 1983 seasons, a temporary structure known as the Meadow Center was used. It held 2000 under its roof with 4500 more on the lawn. The Filene Center was rebuilt and ready for a shortened 1984 season.
Beginning in 1974, some performances were taped for television broadcast.
